PG Department of Commerce

PG Department of Commerce, NSS College, Pandalam is a well known centre with a long tradition in commerce education in the Central Travancore area. The alumni of the department include dignitaries in various fields like Business Executives, Bank Managers, Academicians, Chartered Accountants, Social Workers and Politicians. The department started B.Com Annual Course in 1952, B.Com Semester Course in job oriented Tax Procedure and Practice in 1999 and M.Com Course in 2001. UGC aided Add-on Courses started in the year 2006. The faculty of the department includes Ph.D. and M.Phil. Degree holders. Some of the faculties are members of the Board of Studies, Examination Board and Viva Board. The faculties are active participators in academic and co-curricular activities. There are many ongoing major and minor UGC sponsored projects in the department. The department has a good collection of reference books and Computer Lab with Internet facilities.

Degree programmes from 2010 admission onwards are based on the choice based credit and semester system. The department achieves academic excellence with more than 90% result for B.com Finance Programme and more than 86% for B.com Tax Procedure and Practice Programme. The success rate for PG Course is 95-100 percent. The sanctioned strength for B.com Finance Programme is 60 and B.com Tax Procedure and Practice is 36. For M.com Degree Course the sanctioned strength is 16. The department offers an Open Course titled “Principles of Management” to students of other departments. The faculty members of the department are academically sound and have published Books and several research papers in various research journals. The department has a tradition in securing ranks in the University examinations with 8 first ranks, 5 second ranks and 10 third ranks. The Department is offering Value added certificate programme in “Disaster Management- Fundamentals”from 2022 onwards. The department is having one UGC major project and seven minor ongoing projects.In the year 2024, as University of Kerala has introduced FYUGP courses in various colleges coming under its purview, the PG Department of Commerce of NSS College Pandalam has started a new academic year with FYUGP B.Com finance and B.Com Tax procedure batches with a strong mission and vision.
