The Multilingual Discourse Forum: An IQAC Initiative

Concept:
The Multilingual Discourse Forum (MDF) stands as a pioneering initiative bythe college IQACaligned with the principles of Outcome-Based Education (OBE) and the vision outlined in the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. Rooted in the ethos of promoting linguistic diversity and embracing Indic/Indigenous knowledge systems (IKS) and traditional knowledge (TK), the forum serves as a dynamic platform for nurturing holistic development and fostering intercultural understanding among students.
Objectives:

1. Integration of Indigenous and Traditional Knowledge:MDF aims to blend indigenous and traditional knowledge into the curriculum using innovative teaching methods, in line with NEP 2020. By incorporating these perspectives into learning, it enhances students’ understanding and appreciation of diverse knowledge systems.
2. Fostering Language Variety: The forum promotes linguistic diversity by encouraging the study and appreciation of ‘Bharatiya Bhasha’, aligning with NEP 2020’s emphasis on multilingualism. Through language programmes and cultural exchanges, students gain language skills and cultural understanding for effective global communication.
3. Encouraging Interdisciplinary Conversations: Serving as a platform for interdisciplinary discussions, the MDF facilitates valuable exchanges among students, faculty, and experts from various fields. By promoting collaborative projects and workshops, it fosters holistic learning and creativity in line with NEP 2020’s objectives.
4. Preserving Cultural Heritage: Recognising the importance of preserving cultural heritage, the forum initiates projects to document, promote, and protect traditional practices, rituals, and oral histories. Through community outreach and heritage conservation, it instils pride in students for their cultural heritage and promotes sustainable development.
5. Enhancing Employability and Entrepreneurship: The Multilingual Discourse Forum offers skill-based training and entrepreneurship programmes tailored to students’ needs, aligning with NEP 2020’s focus on skill development.

The Multilingual Discourse Forum reflects our college’s commitment to advance Outcome-Based Education (OBE) goals and NEP 2020’s vision. By promoting linguistic diversity, embracing indigenous knowledge, and facilitating interdisciplinary dialogue, it creates a dynamic learning environment that equips students for success in a rapidly changing world.

Language Workshop Series:
The forum conducts a series of language workshops focusing on enhancing proficiency in Bharatiya Bhasha. First workshop of this series is scheduled to 06 March 2024.
The Language Workshop Series will commence with the inaugural session on 06 March 2024.
Programme: As part of an innovative experiment, the first program in the series will be “Aksharaslokam” conducted in four languages, in the name “ഭാഷാമാലിക” (Bhaṣāmālika): This program will include the “Aksharaslokam” exercise in Hindi and English, in addition to its traditional practice in Sanskrit and Malayalam.This program aims to explore the beauty of poetic expression across different languages and cultures.
