On March 4, 2024, a training program for teachers on the Four Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUGP) was conducted by the University of Kerala in collaboration with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of NSS College, Pandalam. The event, held from 9:30 AM to 2:00 PMin the college auditorium, was aimed at familiarizing teachers with the key elements of the FYUGP and its alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
The first session was led by Dr. Manoj T. R., Associate Professor and Head, Department of History, MSM College, Kayamkulam, who delivered a presentation on 'Outcome-Based Education (OBE).' Dr. Manoj explained the significance of OBE in the context of FYUGP, emphasizing the shift from traditional content-based teaching to a learner-centric approach focused on achieving specific outcomes. He detailed how OBE promotes the holistic development of students by aligning learning objectives with skill development, critical thinking, and employability. The session highlighted the need for curriculum design an assessment methods that cater to these outcomes, providing educators with insights into adopting OBE strategies in their teaching practices.
In the second session, Dr. Rajeev S. R., Associate Professor and Head, Department of Economics, TKMM College, Nangiarkulangara, discussed the 'Curriculum Framework and Regulations of the Four Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUGP).' Dr. Rajeev provided an overview of the structural changes introduced under FYUGP, such as the multiple entry-exit options, the integration of multidisciplinary courses, and the introduction of research components in the final year. He also elaborated on the regulatory aspects governing the program, including credit systems, evaluation patterns, and the flexibility offered to students in choosing their academic pathways. Dr. Rajeev connected these features with the broader goals of NEP 2020, which aims to create an inclusive and flexible education system tailored to the diverse needs of learners.
Throughout the training program, participants engaged in discussions on how the FYUGP framework aligns with the NEP’s emphasis on experiential learning, interdisciplinary studies, and skill-based education. Overall, the training program was insightful and well-received, equipping teachers with the necessary knowledge and strategies to effectively implement the Four Year Undergraduate Programme in line with the vision of NEP 2020.
