Women's Study Unit

The Women’s Study Unit (WSU) at N.S.S. College Pandalam plays a pivotal role in fostering gender sensitivity and empowerment among students. Established with the objective of addressing gender disparities, the unit acts as a crucial platform for raising awareness, promoting gender equality, and encouraging the holistic development of women in the academic community.One of the primary functions of the Women’s Study Unit is to educate students about the socio-cultural, economic, and political challenges faced by women. Through seminars, workshops, and discussions, the unit creates a space where students can engage in critical thinking and discussions about gender issues. These activities broaden their understanding and encourage them to challenge stereotypes and contribute to a more inclusive society.

Parent- Teacher Association

It is a statutory body constituted in accordance with the directions from the Government with the Principal as the President and a parent who is the elected representative as the Vice- President. The PTA Executive Committee comprises six members from the teaching fraternity and five members among the parents in addition to the president. The Association envisages the wholesome development of the personality of students. It encourages the students to nourish their innate aptitudes through constructive interference. PTA provides opportunities to develop leadership qualities of the students and tries to protect them from all fissiparous activities. PTA encourages the students of the institution through Merit awards, Endowments and scholarships for the students who excel in various fields and also provides sessions on Career development and placement. It helps in improving the infrastructure of the college and offers all support for creating a congenial atmosphere for the teaching-learning process. The activities of the PTA are regulated by the Secretary and Treasurer alongside the members of the committee. The accounts are regularly maintained with annual audit by a Chartered Accountant.

Alumni Association

Alumni association plans to channelize and transform the good will of the Alumni into creative and meaningful co-existence. A new programme —”Second Home Coming”— is currently running in the college in which the prominent alumni of a Department will get a chance to re-visit the college and address the students of the department. The venture is highly appreciated by the current students and the alumni. Similar programmes, to share the academic resources and expertise of our alumni are waiting for implementation.

Student’s Grievance & Redressal Cell

Genuine grievances of students relating to academic and non-academic nature are being discussed and redressed by the Grievances Redressal Cell. Both academic and personal problems are closely monitored. The students also have the opportunity to positively participate in the activities of the cell by using the suggestion box made available to them.

Placement Cell

The purpose of the Training and Placement is to guide students to choose right career and to give knowledge, skill and aptitude and meet the manpower requirements of the Industry. The following are to aim to accomplish tasks in every academic year:

• To assist students to develop/clarify their academic and career interests, and theirshort and long-term goals through individual counselling and group sessions
• Gathering information about job fairs and all relevant recruitment advertisements.
• Coordinating with companies to learn about their requirements and recruitment procedures
• Identifying the needs and expectations of the companies to assist them in recruiting most suitable candidates.
• Organizing pre-placement training/workshops/seminars for students.
• To provide resources and activities to facilitate the career planning process.
• To act as a link between students, alumni and the employment community.
• To assist students in obtaining placement in reputed companies.

Anti Ragging Cell

Ragging is a criminal offence as per the Supreme Court verdict. Ragging in all its forms, within or outside the institute/campus is totally banned. An anti-ragging cell functions in the college and it strictly monitors the activities of the students in the campus. The complaints about Ragging can lodge to the Principal office or dropped to the Complaint/Grievances box made available to them.

Institutional level Scholarships/Endowments

With a view to encouraging students in their academic pursuit the following scholarships and endowments are instituted.

• Vidyanidhi: Initiated by the teachers and students, the scholarship attempts to empower the meritorious students who come to the institution from less fortunate backgrounds. “Vidhyanidhi” is an exclusive scheme for the medical aid, emergency needs and merit recognition of students in our college. The students and teachers are the main contributors and the collective sum is utilized for various purposes. The Merit awards in cash are distributed annually alongside the issuance of uniforms free of cost, books, study materials, etc. Through the scheme, free uniform is provided to a minimum of two girl students from every batch with the financial assistance of the teachers of the college.
• PTA Merit Scholarship: The Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) of the college honours the students of the college who excel in studies, arts, cultural and sports activities. The scholarships are provided as an encouragement for the students and the awards are distributed in a grand function organized by the association. The platform motivates the students of the college to accomplish various goals.
• Parvathi Amma Endowment: For the M.Sc. Zoology final year student who secures the highest marks.
• Perumbillil Parukutty Amma Memorial Endowment: For M.Sc. Chemistry first year student from Nair community, who has gained the highest marks for B.Sc. Chemistry.
• Sri. Perumpulickal Gopinathan Nair Endowment: Instituted by Dr. J. Anjana, Associate Professor of English for the students of the Department of English securing highest marks for III BA (English) & II MA (English) examination.
• Prof. Anantha Padmanabha Pillai Memorial Endowment, Instituted by the family of the late Professor for the best student of BA Political Science.
• Mr. & Mrs. Kannamath Krishnan Nair Memorial Scholarship: For the BA Malayalam final year student who secures the highest marks.
• Prof. P. K. Narayana Pillai Endowment: Instituted by V. Remadevi, Associate Professor of Botany (Retd.) for the students of the Department of Botany for getting highest marks for III B.Sc. Botany & II M.Sc. Botany.
• Sri. S Krishna Pillai Memorial Endowment: Sponsored by Smt. Lekshmi Devi Kunjamma G., Head of the Department of Mathematics, NSS College, Pandalam (Rtd.) for the toppers in MA Economics, BSc Mathematics, Complementary Mathematics for BSc Physics and Chemistry.
• Sri. C.N. Bhaskaran Pillai Memorial Endowment: Sponsored by Dr. Sreekala B., Department of English, NSS College Pandalam for the toppers in MA English and BA English.
• English Endowment: Initiated by Prof. L. Vatsa, Formerly Head, Department of English, NSS College, Pandalam for two meritorious students from BA and MA English.
• English Merit Endowment: Initiated by Prof. P. Hari Krishna, Formerly Head, Department of English, NSS College, Pandalam for the students who secure highest marks in Shakespeare Studies and Cultural Studies.
• C. K. Raghavan Nair Endowment: For the students of final B.A. Political Science for getting the highest marks with at least a second class.
• Nallamuttom Govinda Pillai Memorial Endowment: Instituted by Ilikkulathu G. Sankara Pillai to be given to the student getting highest marks in M.Sc. Zoology.
• Research Merit Scholarship: Initiated by the Alumni MA English 2018 Batch for the student who secures the highest marks for MA English Project.
