The Department of History offers History as an optional subject for Pre-university since 1950. The Under Graduate Department of History started functioning in 1978. It offers degree Core courses in History and Economics & Political Science as Complementary Courses. An Open Course Introduction to Archaeology is offering for Semester five – optional for all other disciplines in the College. Department also offers a Value Added Course titled Travel and Tourism. 2024 onwards department shifts over its First year BA CBCSS programme to FYUGP programme with Major, Minors and MDC courses in accordance with the curriculum and syllabus of the University of Kerala. The Department has showcased a good performance at the University Examinations and got prominent ranks in the yers 1980, 2003, 2005, 2010, 2015 & 2022. The teaching faculty of the Department includes Three permanent faculty and one Guest faculty.

Parent-Teacher meetings are held regularly and the issues relating to the studies are discussed. Further, the students are classified into various groups, based on their abilities, and teachers are put in charge of each group for keenly watching their improvement. Instructions are given frequently to make sure that they are kept in track always.

For the identification of the slow learners monthly tests are conducted and Remedial classes are arranged. The tutors monitor the performance of every student and suggest appropriate remedial measures. Opportunities are provided to advanced learners to present papers on chosen topics and lead discussions in the classroom. They are chosen for taking Peer Teaching. It brings in courage and confidence to the students, to participate in seminars and competitions.

Department also conducts outreaching programmes, seminars, workshops etc. to uplift the academic status and social commitment. Our students have active participation in sports, games, NSS & NCC. Department also conducts Site visit and study tour mainly to historically important places and Heritage sites for getting a practical awareness to students on History and Historiography.
