The Department of Political Science is one of the oldest departments of N. S. S. College, Pandalam, Kerala (established in 1950). Since its inception, the Department is providing quality education to the students who hail from various walks of life. To accomplish the value of Choice Based Credit and Semester Scheme, recently introduced by the University of Kerala, the Department of Political Science has included diversified courses to the UG Programmes. Among them the human rights in India, introduction to public policy analysis, new social movements, globalisation and political systems are some of the examples. Not only that the open course offered by the Department of Political Science to other UG Programmes is 'Human Rights and Duties'.
The Department is an under graduate department of this college, it has produced so many excellent personalities throughout its history. Being a social science department, it is our responsibility to make the student community as social engineers, and nation builders. We are humble but enduring to create wonders by utilizing the excellence of our faculty in the department. During the year 2009-2015 we could conduct national seminars, state levele seminars, training programmes etc, with the aid and help of various agencies.
We are keen in observing the result of the students at various classes, for that we are providing tutorial and remedial classes in formal manner. The dissertation for the third year graduates is being looked by the department a serious venture to inculcate social responsibility among students. Along with the curricular activities many co-curricular and extra curricular activities are also undertake. In order to ensure the student participation in academic and allied innovative activities, the department maintains tie-up acivities with Institute on Parliamentary Affairs, Indian Institute of Public Administration, Achuthamenon Study and Research Center etc. The Department has a good collection of books on different branches of the discipline and that is preserved in the college central library.
The Department consists of three faculty memebers of which one member hold both PhD and M Phil and another member of the Department hold M Phil and LLB. One of the members of the Department has UGC NET and pursuing his PhD.
